“Let there be light”

“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.” – Genesis 1:2-4

The Spirit of God hover over the waters… it was chaotic, empty and dark, then “The Light” is there! It separates the light from the darkness.

When things are out of order, when expectations are unmet, when the future is uncertain, darkness consumed my heart, vision and life. Thoughts came in when driving; it’s a private moment with God. God’s light sheds on me and light up the darkness within, the thought of being lonely, the inability to love, the selfish thought to give, the unavoidable lost, God sees my limitation and anxiety, He actually embraces my flaws and hurts.

Stillness helps create space for God, it reveals the fear chaotic darkness in us, and it also allows God to work within us. It is certainly not easy to live in ambiguity and obscurity, changes cause insecurity, lost brings void. But it is when God start working, His spirit hover over the trouble water. “Let there be light”! The ‘good’ separates from the ‘dark’. Life begins at evening then morning.

“…weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” – Psalms 30:5

It’s a long long period of darkness before Jesus is born. It was even a greater darkness after Jesus died. Before the first streak of light break the dawn on the third day, a gloomy hopelessness atmosphere hovered over God’s people. Jesus, the morning star, brings light into our life, let His spirit hover upon us, He will put things in order, make things right again.

Joyful tears streak down my cheek.
